Living Apart Together: Local Governments and Citizen Radiation Measuring Organizations After Fukushima

Since the Fukushima nuclear accident, dozens of citizen radiation measuring organizations (CRMOs) continue to observe fallout in Japan. Their activities intersect on a regular basis with those Japanese government. Recognizing different policy levels involved measuring, this paper studies relations between local governments and CRMOs. We examine how civic governmental infrastructures initiated wake accident (dis)engage each other. link these pre- post-Fukushima socio-technical imaginaries. By doing so, we explore whether CRMOs challenge reconfigure political culture conclude that have established themselves as separate infrastructures, living operating same environment, yet apart majority cases. identify obstacles opportunities for engagement emergency recovery process after contextualize within mobilization Fukushima.
